Emetophobia cured in Cambridge and london with Pure Hypnoanalysis and applied psychological techniques
Emetophobia is a strong and persistent fear of being sick/ vomiting. Emetophobia is known by many names (emetephobia, phagophobia, vomitophobia, vomit phobia, sickness phobia, fear of vomiting, fear of gagging, fear of swallowing, fear of choking, globus hystericus), but whatever you call it, this condition can affect sufferers deeply. There are also a number of other fears that can be associated with a fear of being sick:
Seeing others being sick
Gagging
Choking on food
Pregnancy (due to the possibility of morning sickness)
Drowning
Social phobia
Fear of other situations in which you feel 'dirty' (e.g. going to the toilet, feeling sweaty)
I receive many enquiries from emetophobes - it is a common condition and is often extremely debilitating and disabling. Many of my clients have already sought treatment - to little or no avail. The treatments I offer are entirely different to other treatments that you may have tried, as they address the underlying reasons for the phobia. To read all about the two unique forms of treatment I offer then please see below.

According to the International Emetophobia Society, emetophobia is the fifth most common phobia. A typical emetophobe is probably female (although men can suffer from this condition as well) and below average weight.
If you have emetophobia you will know only too well that this phobia can severely limit your ability to really enjoy life. Emetophobia is rarely spoken of - partly because of the nature of the subject - you probably feel that it is unpleasant and 'dirty', and are embarrassed. You may have wasted years avoiding situations where either you or someone around you could become ill. Many emetophobics suffer panic or anxiety attacks when they imagine the slightest hint that they may vomit.
Due to the link between eating and potentially being sick, you may be a little obsessive about what, where and with whom you will eat. You may avoid eating out at restaurants and when doing may be very choosy - avoiding spicy or unusual cuisines. Some emetophobes will go hungry rather than eat in public places. You may be teetotal or heavily restrict your alcohol consumption and avoid pubs or clubs where others may drink heavily.

You may find that you take excessive time off work or school because of your fear of vomiting or being exposed to people who can pass on germs that will cause you to vomit. Crowded places are, also, often avoided. You may avoid public transport, preferring to travel by car and driving yourself. It is, also, common for emetophobics to avoid flying and travelling by boat, especially to foreign countries for fear of being sick.
If you are a female emetophobic it is possible that you have prevented yourself from becoming pregnant, solely for fear of morning sickness. Alternatively you may have children but become consumed by worry about them being ill. You may find that you find yourself completely unable to look after your children when they are unwell as your fear of vomit is so intense.
Emetophobia consumes a great deal of the time and energy of the person who suffers from it. There is the constant mental stress of worrying when one will vomit next.
Nearly all the sufferers I have helped have also had 'Social Phobia', an intense fear of being judged. Click here for more information about social phobia.
Treating Emetophobia with Pure Hypnoanalysis
Many emetophobics that I have treated have already sought help elsewhere with little or no success. It is quite possible that you feel (understandably) that your emetophobia can never be resolved - you have been promised help before yet nothing you have tried thus far has helped at all. Pure Hypnoanalysis is entirely different to any other therapies you may have tried.
A Phobia is "an external symbolic interpretation, of an internal anxiety". Phobias are almost always formed in the childhood (although the symptoms may not appear for many years) and are caused by the sufferer bottling up some strong emotions in response to an experience. These emotions are then symbolically projected onto an object/situation creating a phobic response.
By releasing the bottled up emotions that are causing your phobia, you will completely remove the underlying driving forces behind it. Most other types of therapy cannot gain access to these 'locked away' emotions and experiences - Pure Hypnoanalysis can.
The process of Pure Hypnoanalysis requires a strong bond of trust and rapport being created between the therapist, and the client. Over a period of about 6 to 12 sessions, we slowly link thoughts, feelings and memories back through time (using a process of 'free association') until we come to the bottled up emotions. When we release these emotions, the phobia is resolved forever. You will find that you are no longer held back by unresolved emotional issues and are able to live the life you really want.
Helping Emetophobia Through Changing Limiting Beliefs
My newly developed Changing Limiting Beliefs training programme is an alternative way of banishing your emetophobia. This isn't therapy - it's a programme designed to enable YOU to take control of your life.
For many emetophobics the constant fear and worrying surrounding being sick takes up a great deal of thought and energy. Changing Limiting Beliefs is a training programme, which teaches you how to take control of these thoughts, feelings, emotions, doubts and worries. It will enable you to completely change the way you think and feel about yourself and challenging situations – enabling you to live a happier, more successful and positive life. This programme is particularly suitable for anyone who may, for whatever reason, find going through a course of Pure Hypnoanalysis particularly difficult or impossible.
If you suffer from emetophobia you almost certainly feel very powerless in relation to your phobia: you feel completely unable to control your fear (as with most other phobics). Most emetophobics, however, have a very strong desire for control. You may indeed feel completely in control in all other areas of your life and so find it particularly frightening and scarily out of control when faced your feelings around being sick. By controlling what you eat, who you eat with, where you go, how clean and germ-free you can keep yourself (so you don’t catch a vomit virus), what you put into your mouths etc, you feel a bit more powerful, and that your fear is more predictable.
Unfortunately most of these attempts at control do not actually increase your sense of power over your phobia. If you think about it, all these efforts at control are also ways in which you avoid being confronted with anything to do with being sick. Although they temporarily make you feel a bit better, a bit more in control, you are essentially reinforcing your overall sense of powerlessness by repeatedly reminding yourself that you cannot overcome your phobia and instead need to avoid it.
Emetophobics also tend to spend a great deal of time thinking and worrying about the possibility of being sick. It is this obsessing, which really makes the phobia an everyday problem, which pervades into all areas of the your life. This constant worrying, aside from being exhausting, tends to keep you focused in on your fear, and makes it seem far bigger and more overwhelming than it really is.
You can take control of your emetophobia and completely change the way you think and feel about being sick. You just haven't ever been shown how! Indeed most people have no idea just how significant their thoughts and beliefs are, nor how to take charge of their emotions, doubts and worries. Through the Changing Limiting Beliefs training programme you will gain amazing personal insight and a real understanding of how your thought processes are maintaining your phobia. The programme is all about YOU taking control of your life and changing the way that you think and feel about situations.
The success of the programme lies in giving you a real understanding of the driving forces behind your limiting beliefs. Once you fully understand why you have been thinking in a certain way, it becomes easy to manage your thinking so that is is working for you, rather than against you!
Hi Rob
Just to let you know, I have just completed your online research survey :)
Now, about my emetophobia....... it's completely bloody gone!
I'm sorry I doubted you, and I'm sorry I was a difficult client, but you are a genius. I had tried everything to try and get some relief from the fear that was crippling my life, and now it is completely gone - and it's amazing. I read your testimonials page before coming to see you, and I remember thinking 'God, I would love to feel like those people do" - well, now I do, and I couldn't be happier. I can eat anything I want, I can drink anything I want, and all my other anxieties have now completely gone. Thank you so so much, you have given me a life. Sara Carter PS Big bottle of JD on it's way!
I cant believe how different I am now to what I was 18 months ago. I went to see Rob because I had a fear of sickness (Emetophobia) and as he soon noticed when he met me I also had a very low opinion of myself. It wasn't easy talking about myself but he really did have a very good way of putting people at ease, takes his work very serious but he has a very relaxed humorous way with people. After a few visits to his clinic he tried to assure me that my phobia had gone, I wonted to believe this but couldn't as I needed proof. Little did I realise proof was there. Sat on a plane this year relaxed didn't think about feeling air sick, noticed I was agreeing to go out more, tried different foods without thinking twice about it. The very best of proof was a short stay in hospital, not only me being sick but others around me and I COPED it was a FANTASTIC feeling even though I felt cr*p I could smile because at last I believe the phobia had gone.
I have to say when I last saw Rob I still had a couple of tears in my eyes and that was because I still didn't feel good about myself so Rob introduced me to his dream technique, now that really has changed me, it was difficult putting it into practise at first and I remember Emailing Rob moaning it wasn't working and his usual patients shone through and he told me to keep trying as it will work, and believe me it does, I'v gone from using the dream about 20 times a day to just now and again if I feel I'm being negative about anything. Both friends and family have noticed the change in me and its all thanks to one fantastic man, Rob Kelly. Keep the good work going Rob. Jenny - Midlands
