Hypnosis and Pure Hypnoanalysis help for victims of sexual abuse or sexual assault (including childhood sexual abuse) in Cambridge and London

Childhood Sexual Abuse

Child abuse can take different forms, all of which can cause long-term damage to a child: physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect and sexual abuse. This page is about sexual abuse, as it has the potential to cause the most harm to the child - because the abuse is of such a personal nature it tends to cause a huge amount of guilt and shame in the child.

Sexual abuse is said to have occured when a child or young person is pressurised, forced or conned into taking part in any kind of sexual activity with an adult or older person. Sexual abuse is one of the most damaging and traumatic events a child can experience and the feelings of guilt and shame often remain with people throughout their lifetimes.

If you have been abused, or fear you have, it can be very hard to take the first step in seeking help - especially if you have never told anyone about the abuse. Or perhaps you have talked about the issue before to friends, family or professionals. This may have made you feel a little better, but the painful emotions and memories still exist. Unfortunately, sexual abuse is very common.

Some of my clients seek treatment purely for the negative feelings they still have from the abuse. It is more often the case, however, that clients will mention that they were sexually abused as a side issue when consulting for other problems such as low self-esteem, panic attacks or drug abuse. You can rest assured that I regularly treat problems stemming from sexual abuse and that these are always dealt with in a sensitive, confidential, non-judgmental and professional way.

The Psychological effects of Sexual Abuse

  • Isolation - victims often feel different and isolated from other children.
  • Feelings of rejection - the child may conclude that the offender could not love them and that is why the abuse is happening. Alternatively a child may fear rejection from other loved ones should they find out about the abuse.
  • Secrecy - Victims feel they have a guilty secret that no-one can know about. They hold back from showing their true thoughts and feelings.
  • Guilt and shame - Children often blame themselves, and often offenders encourage the child into accepting blame and responsibility. See below for more general info on Guilt
  • Anger - Victims often feel anger towards themselves, the offender and those who failed to protect them.
  • Fear - The child may have been threatened or coerced. The child is afraid to tell because of fear of punishment, blame, abandonment or not being believed.
  • Sadness and Betrayal - This is particularly common if the offender was a loved and trusted person.

Child sexual abusers (paedophiles) can come from any professional, racial or religious background, and can be male or female. They are not always adults - children and young people can also behave in a sexually abusive way. Often the abuser is a family member or someone known to the child, such as a family friend. They may also play on a child's guilt and persuade them it was their fault and really they wanted it to happen. Some abusers may pretend abuse is normal and a way of showing love in families and may reward the child for their participation - this is called grooming - preparing the child for abuse.

Guilty Feelings

Excessive guilt is sometimes the result of childhood sexual abuse, but it is certainly NOT the only cause of adult guilty feelings. Guilt is a very powerful and destructive emotion and has the ability to eat away at us, should it become extreme. Guilt is very often connected to feelings of rejection. It often manifests itself as having a strong sense of responsibility for others or a need to please others. We may focus on every possible upset or offence we may have caused other people and brood about how they will think of us. We may replay conversations in our mind, tormenting ourselves that we have said or done the wrong thing. Normal guilt occurs when we think we have done something wrong. Most people feel guilty when they break 'rules' or do something that goes against their principles.

Excessive guilt occurs when you have the additional belief that as a result of your transgression you are a bad person and don't deserve to feel happy and enjoy life.

Are you suffering from guilty feelings?

  • Do you feel overly responsible for other people, trying to make everybody happy, even at the expense of your own happiness? You give too much of yourself unaware that guilt is the motivator for such thoughtful behavior.
  • Are you overly conscientious? You worry over every action you take as to its possible negative consequence to others, even at the expense of your needs and wants.
  • Are you over sensitive - worrying that things you've done or said may have caused offence? You are hyper sensitive to the cues of others in how they respond to you.
  • Are you silenced or do you retreat into the background around others by the fear of doing or saying something wrong.
  • Do you have trouble making decisions? It is so important to always be right in your decisions, that you become unable to make a decision.

Overcome by guilt and fear, you can become emotionally blocked or closed off. You find it hard to fully enjoy the happy times in life.

Resolving the Effects of Childhood Sexual Abuse with Pure Hypnoanalysis

Pure Hypnoanalysis can resolve the effects and symptoms of Sexual Abuse. If, even after many years have passed, you are still feeling the shame, guilt and sadness as a result of being sexually abused, Pure Hypnoanalysis can finally release the negative emotions from your past, allowing you to completely and permanently resolve your symptoms.

Bottled up emotions cause us many symptoms and problems simply because locking these emotions away means that we are unable to resolve them. Pure Hypnoanalysis releases these bottled up emotions from our childhood, permanently. Pure Hypnoanalysis is a very special type of hypnotherapy. It is one of the best methods in the world for treating emotional, psychological or anxiety-related problems. It is a uniquely successful therapy, which allows you to completely resolve the root cause of your symptoms, in a very safe and non-judgmental atmosphere.

This therapy only takes around 6 - 12 sessions, allowing you to make huge changes to your life in a very short space of time.

Recent Sexual Assault

A sexual assault or rape during adulthood can, also, have a devastating impact on a person's life. Many people feel ashamed, guilty, violated, afraid and powerless after such incidents. In many cases people struggle to remember or process details relating to the traumatic experience. Often a victim will suffer from after effects such as anxiety, nightmares or PTSD. I offer sessions particularly designed to enable people to process and move on from recent traumatic incidents in a very safe and non-judgmental atmosphere.

These Forensic and Investigative Memory Enhancing Technique (FIMET) consultations, also allow clients to elicit as much information as possible surrounding an incident (or incidents), when this information may be used in a police investigation and/or legal proceedings, without inadvertently creating memory distortions or inaccuracies.

The Forensic and Investigative Memory Enhancing Techniques are ideally suited for helping people who have:

(a) experienced some form of traumatic incident(s) and are struggling to process it (get over it), or are suffering in some way as a consequence of it

(b) experienced some form of traumatic incident(s), and have poor memory recall (or none at all) about the experience(s)

(c) experienced some form of traumatic incident(s), have poor memory recall (or none at all) about the experience(s) and where the information gathered about the experience(s) may be used in Civil or Criminal legal proceedings
